AMD’s Earnings Up Sharply: Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Advanced Micro Devices, boosted by surging sales, reported a 45% rise in second-quarter profit. The microprocessor manufacturer earned $93.2 million, or 93 cents per share, in the quarter ended June 26. A year ago, it earned $64.4 million, or 65 cents per share, in the same period. Revenue was $533.3 million, up 30% from $409.1 million in the year-ago period. “AMD had another excellent quarter as our non-microprocessor business grew and microprocessor sales remained at record levels,” Richard Previte, president and chief operating officer, said in a statement. AMD’s stock closed up $1 at $26 on the New York Stock Exchange.
