Ex-Officer Guilty of Failing to Halt Beating

DETROIT —
A former police sergeant was convicted of neglect of duty Friday for failing to stop two police officers from beating a man to death with metal flashlights.
Freddie Douglas faces up to a year in jail for the misdemeanor. His lawyer said he would appeal.
Former police officers Larry Nevers and Walter Budzyn were convicted last year of second-degree murder in the 1992 death of Malice Wayne Green outside a suspected drug house.
