BUENA PARK : Ceremony to Honor a Past Volunteer

Share

Residents may nominate community volunteers who died at least three years ago for the city’s 11th annual Memorial Grove ceremony, to be held in August.

A tree will be planted in honor of this year’s honoree, who will be selected by the Park and Recreation Commission.

Applications are available at the Recreation Department, 8150 Knott Ave., and at City Hall, 6650 Beach Blvd.

Completed applications must be returned by 5 p.m. July 18.

Twelve black alder and pine trees already grace the Grove at Boisseranc Park, and 12 names are engraved on plaques commemorating some of the city’s most valued volunteers.

The ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 20, according to Gary Olivas of the Recreation Department.

The tree-planting program, which started in 1984, is intended “to express consideration for a past resident who has contributed time and effort to the community,” Olivas said.

The Park and Recreation Commission will choose this year’s honoree at its July 21 meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Family and friends will be notified immediately, Olivas said.
