One of two brothers shot by a man in an alleged gang dispute in east Newhall on Saturday remained hospitalized with a bullet wound to the stomach, authorities said Monday.

Pasqual and Crescencio Gutierrez, both of Newhall, were involved in a fight with other suspected gang members Saturday night before the shooting, according to officials with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. Pasqual Gutierrez, 22, told deputies about 10 to 15 members of the gang attacked him and his brother at about 5:40 p.m. Saturday in an alley at the intersection of 5th and Race streets.

One of the gang members, a male Latino believed to be in his early 20s, fired several shots at the brothers with a small chrome handgun, Sgt. Russell Brown said. Pasqual Gutierrez was shot once in the upper left thigh, and his 19-year-old brother was shot once in the abdomen.
