WORLD CUP USA ‘94: ROUND OF 16 : Spotlight : MIX-IT-UP ZONE

Share

What do you get with overzealous security guards and scoop-driven Brazilian journalists?

Trouble.

Both sides may have spent a little too much time at the espresso stand in Palo Alto by the time everyone entered the mixed zone, an often scary area known for hand-to-hand combat in an attempt to interview players.

Some take mixing too literally.

A couple of Brazilian reporters were ejected from the mixed zone and exclamations of Portuguese profanity followed.

Then there was a clear blast of English from one cameraman, who shouted: “Brazil isn’t the third world. You are the third world! We are not animals. We are people.”
