VENTURA : Developers to Offer Plans for Projects

Share

Developers wanting to build housing or commercial buildings in Ventura are scheduled to present their plans today in the first of a series of meetings to determine which projects will receive priority.

The city can award up to 1,018 housing allocations through 1999, but developers this year alone are asking to build 3,000 units. Today’s meeting with the City Council and Planning Commission marks one of the first steps in the city’s monthlong evaluation of the 12 development proposals.

Beginning at 4 p.m. at City Hall, developers are expected to approach the dais one by one to explain why their proposals should receive approval this year. Some are offering money in exchange for houses. Others say they will build golf courses, tennis courts, a veterans nursing home or regional park.

The council and commission will continue to hold hearings throughout the month. The council is scheduled for a final vote on the allocations July 25.
