European Car Sales Increase: Sales during the first half of the year rose 6.6% from a year earlier, when the industry hit its lowest point of the recession, the European car makers association said. First-half sales in Western Europe rose to 6,489,400 cars, and June sales jumped 11.8% from a year earlier to 1,054,800 vehicles, the second straight sharp monthly rise.
