The Growing Problem of Guns and Violence

Share

* Ron Yorke writes (Letters, July 3) that fewer than 1% of all guns are ever used in crimes.

Every hard-core gang member has an arsenal that would rival a small army. There are tens of thousands of gang members in the L.A. area.

How do they get the weapons? The federal government issues a gun retailing license to anybody that sends $10. So many people sell guns on the street that a 12-year-old can buy a gun as easily as a Popsicle.

The more criminals that have guns, the more law-abiding citizens feel they must have them. The gun business rakes in big bucks, and the gun lobby can finance more “persuasion” for elected officials to water down legislation to deny easy access of firearms.

The emperor is naked, and I’m getting tired of gun battles in my neighborhood.
