AZUSA : Boy Turned In by Mother to Stand Trial for Murder

A 16-year-old Azusa boy who was turned in to police by his mother was bound over for trial Tuesday in the Feb. 5 slaying of a convenience store clerk.

Nicholas Nabors, who was previously found fit to be tried as an adult, faces murder charges in the shooting death of Raj Kumar Sharma, 40, of Covina. Sharma died after robbers took $72 in cash, shot him five times and fled the convenience store where he was working on Arrow Highway in Azusa. Nabors’ arraignment in Pomona Superior Court is scheduled July 26.

Last month, Nabors’ younger brother, a 15-year-old, was convicted in Pomona Juvenile Court of murder in the shooting. He was ordered held by the California Youth Authority until age 25, the maximum juvenile penalty.

The boys were arrested after their mother, Marilyn Ross, turned them in, saying her elder son had confessed. The mother is in hiding from her sons, whose gang friends have threatened to keep her from testifying.
