The Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary, a 135-mile stretch of Pacific Ocean along Washington’s brooding Olympic Peninsula, is being dedicated this weekend. The underwater sanctuary, the first in the Pacific Northwest, will now be off-limits to oil and gas exploration and low-flying aircraft. The sanctuary runs parallel to an Olympic National Park wilderness area that draws 500,000 visitors annually to hike, camp or fish.
