‘Cool’ Accent Marks

Share

* Monsieur Jacques Toubon (All Good), the defender of the French language (Opinion, July 10) would turn into Toutmechant (All Mean) if he saw the violence you do to his language. Decontracte (meaning relaxed) as ersatz for English “cool” is meaningless without two accents, especially the last one. As a multicultural paper, isn’t it time that you use an accent aigu , accent grave, circumflex, as well as an umlaut, a tilde and other foreign symbols?

P.S. Decontract e ain’t in no way cool.
