Share

Fees for many city-sponsored recreational activities will go up Jan. 1.

In a unanimous vote, the City Council last week approved a schedule of higher fees for activities ranging from softball teams to youth arts-and-crafts classes.

Marvin C. DeCarlo, director of the recreation and park district, told the council that fees had not been increased for the past two years.

“The Recreation and Community Services Commission, at its June meeting, unanimously recommended approval for fee increases,” DeCarlo said.

“Overall, most of these fees have an approximate 10% increase, although some (activities) have no increase,” DeCarlo added. “Each activity and class was evaluated on an individual basis (for a fee increase).”

The increase will affect the fees for adult softball teams, which rise from $380 to $420; volleyball teams, from $110 to $125, and basketball teams, from $350 to $385.

Also, youth basketball will increase from $25 to $40; Pee-Wee clinics from $22 to $25; youth arts-and-crafts from $33 to $36; drill team from $20 to $22; kids’ music classes from $29 to $30; youth tennis from $24 to $26, and swimming lessons from $30 to $32.

Summer full-day camp and day care fees will rise from $100 to $115. The child instruction program Kids Corner for 3-year-olds will increase from $87 to $96, for 4-year-olds from $130 to $143, and the summer-only program from $80 to $88.
