Allergan Posts $23.5-Million Profit in 2nd Quarter

Allergan Inc., an Irvine manufacturer of health care products, reported a second-quarter profit of $23.5 million, or 37 cents a share. That compared to earnings of $24.6 million, or 37 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier, which included earnings of $1.2 million from discontinued operations. Sales were 8% higher--$224.7 million, up from $207.9 million. For the first six months of 1994, the company posted a profit of $45.7 million, or 72 cents a share. That compared to a profit of $48.3 million, or 72 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier, when the company had $2.6 million in earnings from discontinued operations. Six-month sales rose 6% to $434.8 million from $410.7 million.
