Former Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev and the exiled Tibetan leader, the Dalai Lama, were among 14 Nobel Peace Prize recipients calling Wednesday for the release of Myanmar’s pro-democracy dissident, Aung San Suu Kyi, at the start of her sixth year under house arrest.

The 49-year-old political prisoner, who has steadily gained support while waiting for the military junta to restore democracy, was herself awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991.
