MOORPARK : Council to Discuss Golf Course Bids

Share

The Ventura County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday will consider soliciting bids from developers for two 18-hole golf courses at Happy Camp Canyon Regional Park in Moorpark.

Moorpark officials complained to Supervisor Vicky Howard this week that they haven’t been given access to the bid proposal, and thus will have a difficult time making comments at the board meeting. The park is outside the city limits, but falls into Moorpark’s area of interest and mandates that the county notify the city about proposed developments there.

Officials from the county’s Recreation Services department said the city was not notified about the plan due to a clerical oversight. The city was rushed copies of the proposal Thursday and will be able to comment on the proposal at the board meeting and later.

“This is very preliminary,” said Robert Amore, the lease manager of the park for the Department of Recreation Services. “All we’re doing at this point is asking for proposals. There will be plenty of opportunities for the public and the city to comment when we actually have a proposal to work on.”

Supervisors on Tuesday will consider changing the county’s Master Plan to allow the two golf courses, and allowing the Department of Recreation Services to open up bidding for their development.
