HUNTINGTON BEACH : Resolution on Illegal Immigrants Adopted

Share

Mayor Linda Moulton Patterson says Huntington Beach and other Orange County cities are paying a big price to provide assistance to illegal immigrants--and she wants it stopped.

“Cities can no longer afford to pay the cost of illegal immigrants--and we have no control,” Moulton Patterson said. “The federal government should pay for any costs incurred. It’s important that cities let the federal government know the impact to Orange County cities.”

The mayor this week asked her colleagues to support a resolution requesting that the federal government increase financial assistance to cities to help them “in providing services to immigrants so that many of the problems the city has experienced due to their presence can be alleviated.”

The resolution also states that the city wants tighter control of the nation’s borders to stem illegal immigration while honoring basic human rights.

The council voted 4 to 1 to adopt the resolution, with Councilman Jim Silva opposed. Councilmen Earle Robitaille and Victor Leipzig were absent.
