Thanks for Covering Operation Immunization

Share

* I was pleased that you took time to recognize Operation Immunization in your recent editorial “The Drive to Save Lives” (June 26). I am delighted that the Los Angeles Unified School District has joined with UniHealth America and many others to make our schools available for the provision of immunizations.

In spite of the advances of modern medicine and the availability of free or low-cost immunizations in many clinics, too many children in our community are not obtaining this essential protection against disease. Schools are a logical place to offer this basic health service, in light of their accessible locations and familiarity to families. The delivery of health services at schools is a key component of the LEARN plan now under way in our district. This is public/private partnership at its best.
