BASEBALL / DAILY REPORT : ANGELS : Bo Says Fans Hurting Team

Angel left fielder Bo Jackson, who was booed in the eighth inning Friday night after misplaying two balls, says he and his teammates are disgusted by the fans’ behavior at Anaheim Stadium this season.

“I’ve never seen anything like this in my life,” said Jackson, perhaps the fans’ most popular player. “It’s no wonder why we play like . . . . here. Guys can’t wait to get on the road with the kind of fans we’ve got here.

“It’s frustrating to the point where we’re losing, and then we’ve got to take on not only the opposite team, the umpires, but even our own fans.

“We might as well be playing on the road 162 games a year with the way we’re treated.”

The Angels are 20-31 at home, the third-worst in baseball. They are 22-26 on the road, better than 13 major league teams.

Yankee starter Jim Abbott, who was grieving over his dog that was killed Thursday when it ran on the street in front of his Connecticut home, was greeted Saturday with a surprise present. Pitching coach Billy Connors brought him a springer spaniel puppy, fresh with a red ribbon.

“I couldn’t believe he did that for me,” Abbott said. “That’s something special.”

Abbott, whom the Angels will strongly pursue as a free agent in the off-season, starts today against the Angels, facing his best friend, Mark Langston.

“It seems like every time I pitch against the Angels I get Mark or Chuck (Finley),” Abbott said, “they’re not making it too easy on me.
