A local company has agreed to stop claiming that its air sprays eliminate smoke, pollen, airborne bacteria and indoor odors, the Federal Trade Commission said Wednesday.

The agency had accused Mia Rose Products Inc. of Costa Mesa of making false and unsubstantiated claims about its Air Therapy and Pet Air sprays.

The five-member FTC voted 5 to 0 to give its final approval to the consent agreement July 19, making it binding on the company. A consent agreement does not constitute admission of a violation of law.

Mia Rose manufactures and sells a line of citrus-based sprays marketed as air-cleaning products, the FTC said.

The company claimed that Air Therapy eliminated household insects and that Pet Air got rid of dander--tiny particles of skin, feathers or hair that may cause allergic reactions.
