Artie Glenn; Bass Player’s Song Became Presley Hit

Artie Glenn, 79, whose song “Crying in the Chapel” became a hit for Elvis Presley and several other recording artists. Glenn played bass with bands and toured the South and Midwest in the 1950s and ‘60s. Presley released his version of “Chapel” in 1965 and the single sold more than 500,000 copies and reached the top five on the charts. Among the bands Glenn played with were the Dixielanders and the Westerners. Although he had not toured in many years, he never stopped composing.
