Microsemi Corp.: The Santa Ana maker of custom semiconductor chips reported that profit for its latest fiscal quarter doubled to $1.1 million, or 14 cents a share, from $553,000, or 7 cents a share, for the same period a year earlier. Revenue for the company’s third quarter, which ended July 3, declined 4% to $30.3 million from $31.5 million. Included in the previous year’s third quarter was revenue of $1.5 million and a loss of $154,000 attributable to businesses that have since been sold. The company’s profit for the first nine months of the current fiscal year totaled $2.4 million, or 28 cents a share. That compared to earnings a year earlier of $2.1 million, or 24 cents a share, which included a gain of $1.3 million from an accounting change. Nine-month sales were down 6% to $88 million from $94 million.
