Joint Chip Deal Scrapped: Intel Corp. is selling its stake in VLSI Technology Inc. as the two companies ended an agreement to jointly develop chips for hand-held computers, VLSI said. Under the 1992 agreement, the companies developed a chip set called Polar for hand-held computers. While both companies will support Polar customers, they have decided that it no longer serves their business interests to extend the original agreement, San Jose-based VLSI said. Santa Clara-based Intel plans to sell its stake of 5.36 million shares of VLSI, which it acquired as part of the technology agreement.
