IBM Cuts Jobs in Storage Division: IBM laid off 320 people in the division, which makes devices to store computerized data. It also announced plans to move the division’s disk drive assembly work from San Jose to Asia, resulting in the loss of another 800 jobs by the end of next year. The division will also narrow its product focus to a few common technologies, IBM said. The layoffs occurred at IBM facilities in San Jose and Rochester, Minn., involving a range of administrative, engineering and development personnel. They are part of a broader effort to cut about 35,000 jobs this year. Through June 30, IBM had cut about 11,000 jobs.
