Powerless to Fight the Electric Cars?

Share

More than a few visionaries seem to regard the electric car as somewhat of a panacea for smog problems.

Not I. I see it quite differently. I get a nightmarish picture in my mind of discarded (possibly acid-leaking) batteries stacked higher than the pyramids of Egypt in our nation’s landfills.

And I foresee the necessity for building ever-more electrical power plants for recharging batteries. Otherwise, the inevitable brownouts could occur at over-capacitated plants. That means the use of extra fuels (of various types) to operate the turbines in those new plants--plants that would belch out smokestack emissions of dubious quality.

A tongue-in-cheek conjecture? Perhaps.
