MOORPARK : Council Delays Vote on Housing Project
The Moorpark City Council has delayed a vote on a proposed 552-house project in the city’s southeast section until a legal dispute with the developer can be resolved.
The council put off until its first meeting in September a decision on a proposal by Carlsberg Financial Corp. to build the upscale homes on 500 acres at Tierra Rejada Road and the Moorpark Freeway.
The Santa Monica-based developer has tried for six years to build the project, suing the city in 1991 over the number of homes that would be allowed. Negotiations are under way to settle the lawsuit, which must happen before the project could be approved.
As drafted, a tentative settlement would exempt the Carlsberg project from any future growth-control laws, although the company would have to abide by an existing growth-control ordinance called Measure F. Under the draft agreement, the council would approve Carlsberg’s project in exchange for the builder dropping its lawsuit.
The City Council will discuss the settlement agreement at a special meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Moorpark City Hall.
