A jury in Columbiana, Ala., returned a $160,000 verdict against former Alabama football star David Palmer, who now plays for the Minnesota Vikings. Palmer was involved in a 1992 accident that injured a Tuscaloosa man. According to testimony by a state trooper, Palmer was intoxicated and speeding.
Larry Donald’s 10-round heavyweight fight against Andrew Golota scheduled for Aug. 13 at the Grand Olympic Auditorium has been called off because Donald reportedly injured his back.
The Detroit Red Wings signed free-agent defenseman Bob Rouse to a multi-year contract. Rouse played with the Toronto Maple Leafs the past 3 1/2 seasons.
