LOS ANGELES : Madonna Given Restraining Order Against Jailed Fan

Madonna was granted a restraining order Monday against an allegedly obsessed fan who was barred from going near the singer, her home or her office.

The order, signed by Superior Court Judge William Allen, bars Todd Lawrence from going within 100 yards of Madonna or her property for the next three years.

Lawrence had allegedly been stalking Madonna for two weeks before he was arrested July 19 on the grounds of her estate. He allegedly claimed to be Madonna’s husband and was arrested after scaling an eight-foot security fence to get onto the grounds.

Lawrence is in jail awaiting an Aug. 16 trial on charges of trespassing, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

According to court records, one of Madonna’s security guards, Basil Stephens, arrested Lawrence at gunpoint and handcuffed him after watching him on a television monitor as Lawrence scaled the fence.

He was handed over to police.

The 35-year-old singer’s million-dollar Hollywood estate is guarded by an electronic gate, security fence and television cameras.

Neither Madonna nor Lawrence were in court for Monday’s hearing.
