Where Are They Now? : BERT BLYLEVEN

Times staff writer David W. Myers catches up with former Dodgers and Angels

Perhaps the greatest curveball pitcher of his era, Blyleven spent the last four years of his 23-year career with the Angels before retiring at the start of the 1993 season. His 17-5 record in 1989 kept the team in contention for the division title until the final week of the season, and his 287 victories make him a candidate for the Hall of Fame.

Blyleven, 43, still lives in Orange County and hopes to become a pitching coach for a major league club. He is co-owner of a Villa Park restaurant, works as an announcer for the new Baseball Network, and has a company that makes “pop-up” baseball cards.
