SOUTH CHARLESTON, W. Va. —
An inmate who escaped from jail by braiding minty-waxed dental floss into a rope as thick as a phone cord and scaling a fence was captured Tuesday, authorities said.
Five weeks after his escape, Robert Shepard was arrested by state troopers and Wood County Sheriff’s deputies. Authorities allege he had robbed a drugstore.
The 5-foot-9, 155-pound Shepard escaped June 29 from the South Central Regional Jail, where he was awaiting trial on charges he robbed a post office.
