A Korean Air Lines jetliner skidded, crashed and burst into flames after landing today, but all 160 people aboard were rescued, South Korean television reported.

The Airbus A-300 skidded into a safety barricade on a rain-slick runway on the southern resort island of Cheju, KBS television said.

Nine people sustained minor injures and were being treated at the police infirmary, KBS said. At least nine Japanese were aboard the domestic flight from Seoul, the capital.

The plane was caught by wind gusts after touching down, witnesses said. The pilot tried to abort the landing and take off again, but the airliner skidded and crashed, they said.

Winds were gusting because Typhoon Doug was approaching the Korean peninsula when the accident happened, the network said.
