FTC, Schering Settle on Claims for Product: The Federal Trade Commission this week announced a consent agreement settling charges that Schering made false claims about the fiber content and weight-loss-promotion ability of Fibre Trim. The agreement follows a 1989 FTC administrative complaint regarding Fibre Trim advertisements. Schering will be prohibited from claiming that its food supplements aid weight loss unless clinical studies can substantiate the claims. “The company has not sold or promoted Fibre Trim since 1991, so the order has no impact on current sales,” a Schering spokesman said. Schering is a subsidiary of pharmaceuticals maker Schering-Plough Corp. of Madison, N.J.
