Ventura County sheriff’s detectives arrested a 23-year-old Oxnard man Wednesday on suspicion of kidnaping and raping a 24-year-old woman last weekend.

Abraham Ramirez was taken into custody at his home at about 7:45 a.m. and booked at Ventura County Jail on charges of kidnaping, rape and three counts of oral copulation, officials said.

The crimes occurred last Sunday night, investigators said. At about 9 p.m., the woman drove to Julian Street in Oxnard to a friend’s house and found a young man standing there.

The woman did not know the man’s name but had seen him in the area, investigators said. She asked the man if he knew where her friend was. He said the friend had left and then persuaded the woman to take him to a nearby store.

Once in her car, the man forced her to drive to an isolated spot on Hueneme Road, where he sexually assaulted her, investigators said.

A few hours later, the man assaulted her again. Then, at a Camarillo hotel, the woman was able to gain the attention of an employee, who telephoned the police. The man became suspicious and fled, authorities said.
