WESTMINSTER : School District Issues Dress Code Reminder

Share

Westminster School District officials are urging parents to buy back-to-school clothing for their children that adheres to the district’s dress code, a spokeswoman said.

District policy forbids any clothing that presents a health, safety or discipline problem. Prohibited items include cutoff pants and “immodest” shorts, as well as hats, caps, bandannas and tank tops. Other clothing not permitted includes shirts with obscene writing, suggestive words and inappropriate product advertisements, spokeswoman Audrey Brown said.

The district also prohibits all clothing associated with gangs, such as Los Angeles Kings or Los Angeles Raiders attire, baggy pants with white or striped T-shirts and overalls worn with straps hanging off the shoulders, Brown said.

“Even if children are not affiliated with a gang, their clothes can be misinterpreted, and that can be dangerous. If there is any question, children need to change their clothes,” Supt. Gail Wickstrom said.

School officials may send children home if they are wearing inappropriate attire, Brown said.
