Noise: Butterflies and Use of Nature Preserve

Share

Notwithstanding Councilwoman Ruth Galanter’s shrieks to the contrary, I applaud the people who are using the land west of LAX for something more useful than making a few bureaucrats and pseudo-scientists feel noble (“Joy Riders Threaten Delicate El Segundo Nature Preserve,” July 31). We have a few thousand butterflies that are alleged to be incapable of living elsewhere so the area is closed off to the public in the people’s name (count me out, please). Perhaps we should be happy that some environmentalists and their willing agents in government (e.g., Galanter) haven’t “discovered” that noise upsets their beloved, sacred butterflies, for then we’d have no other recourse but to close LAX and build a new airport at a less “environmentally sensitive” area.
