SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO : Report on Landfill Available to Public

Share

A draft environmental impact report concerning the proposed changes to the Prima Deshecha landfill is available for public review.

The 1,530-acre county landfill is south of Ortega Highway near La Pata Avenue. Situated in an unincorporated area of the county and parts of San Juan Capistrano and San Clemente, it has been used to hold municipal solid waste since 1976.

Among other things, the report addresses a proposed plan to allow for continued waste disposal and the extension of La Pata Avenue.

Bill Ramsey, a senior city planner, said Thursday that the city has had concerns about traffic, road circulation and ridge-line grading. He said a report is being prepared for the City Council.

Copies of the county’s draft environmental impact report can be reviewed at several locations, including public libraries in San Juan Capistrano, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, Dana Point and Santa Ana.

The deadline for written comments on the document is Sept. 19.
