Golf Course Is Needed

Share

The article about the need for more golf courses in Ventura County stated that neighbors of the planned Hill Canyon golf course “have come out strongly against the proposals.” This is not true in the case of the Santa Rosa Valley.

The Santa Rosa Valley Community Assn. represents residents and homeowners associations in this valley. We support the principle of the city of Thousand Oaks building a golf course in Hill Canyon. When this was first proposed by the city, we objected to the attempt to include a 50-acre parcel of county-owned property in the golf course with little in return. This parcel was purchased by Ventura County to create a park for county residents.

Our association has proposed to the County Parks and Harbor Commission that a small part of this 50 acres be made into a regional equestrian and multiuse park. The remainder would then be available for incorporation in the golf course. There are other issues that need to be resolved in the development of the golf course. However, we would like to work with the city of Thousand Oaks to see this proposal come to fruition.
