‘Forrest Gump’

In a world of instant gratification where one is increasingly viewed as real only as part of society and valued only insofar as one serves it, “Forrest Gump” succeeds when it reaffirms our deepest-held belief that individuals count and a proper (enlightened) life is possible. However, “Forrest Gump” fails when it portrays a man “overcoming” life’s trials and tribulations--not by applying his mind so much, as by being lucky.
