Gonzales Wins Decision Over De La Hoya
Regarding “His Torch Burns Out” (Aug 10):
After the 1992 Olympics, I twice wrote to Oscar De La Hoya, inviting him to be a guest speaker in my introductory course to Chicano Studies, but I did not get the courtesy of a response.
After the ’84 Olympics, I wrote Paul Gonzales and his response was, “Yes, I would love to be a speaker.”
That De La Hoya has been jeered during introductions to his recent boxing matches should surprise only outsiders. In character and style, Gonzales outranks De La Hoya.
