AT&T;, Delta Sign $2.8-Billion Deal: The companies said they will set up a joint firm to provide computer services to tourism and transport companies as part of the 10-year agreement. The deal will push Delta Air Lines Inc. into the profitable transportation information business and give AT&T; Corp. a solid edge in overhauling Delta’s computer systems. The partnership between the telecommunications giant and the nation’s third-largest airline will develop new information technology services to be used by Delta and sold to other travel and transportation companies. The deal excludes airline and travel agency computer reservations systems. The venture, which has not yet been named, will supply computer services to Atlanta-based Delta, which is overhauling its communications as part of a restructuring.
