Henley Can Travel, on $1-Million Bail

Cornerback Darryl Henley can travel with the Rams if he posts $1-million bail and is accompanied by a court officer everywhere but on the field, a judge ruled Tuesday.

Henley, 27, is free on $200,000 bail while awaiting trial for allegedly running a nationwide cocaine network. Under conditions of his previous bail, he could not leave the federal Center District of California, which includes Los Angeles and Orange counties.

Henley must pay the entire cost of having a U.S. marshal accompany him, will be restricted to the team hotel or game site and will have his salary put in escrow while he is on the road, U.S. District Judge Gary Taylor ruled.

Attorneys said Henley can either pay a bondsman $100,000 to secure the bail, or have someone else put up the $100,000 and guarantee the balance if Henley flees.

Gerald Chaleff, one of Henley’s lawyers, said he did not know whether the Rams would guarantee the $1 million. The team would get the $100,000 back if Henley complied with the judge’s conditions.

Henley signed a one-year, $400,000 contract with the Rams last month after nearly a year’s leave of absence.

The Rams are scheduled to play a preseason game against the Chargers in San Diego on Thursday.
