Housing: Air Force Plan for San Pedro Site

This letter is in regards to an Air Force proposal to build up to 150 new military family homes on the former Upper Reservation of Fort MacArthur instead of at the closed Navy housing at Taper Avenue, both in San Pedro. The Air Force has rejected the old Navy housing and claims it would cost more to build new homes on the Taper Avenue property than on the Upper Reservation of Fort MacArthur where there are currently no homes.

Why must the Air Force brass lie and rip off the American public? Why can’t they be honest and admit they want brand-new “million-dollar” ocean view homes for their officers? Anyone with an IQ above a rodent knows it’s cheaper to build homes where there already are streets, gutters, sidewalks, storm drains, and sewer, water, natural gas, electricity and cable TV hook-ups like at the Taper Avenue site.

It is a bold-faced lie to suggest that it’s less costly to put in new homes where these services are currently unavailable like at Fort MacArthur. The old Navy housing could be razed and beautiful housing could be built there for the Air Force for less public money and in less time!

Once again our government officials have manipulated their cost figures for their own designs and plan to take from the public! If you agree with me, please write to your elected officials so we may stop this travesty.
