CANOGA PARK : Toxic Waste Offender to Work for Caltrans

Share

A Canoga Park man who pleaded no contest to illegally disposing of hazardous waste was sentenced to 45 days on a Caltrans work crew, the city attorney’s office said Thursday.

Jafar Rassouli, 45, was ordered to pick up litter along the highway after his response to the charge of abandoning six drums of leftover paint at an automotive body shop in Sun Valley, the Los Angeles city attorney’s office said. Deputy City Atty. Brooke White, who handled the case, said Rassouli left the hazardous paint behind after abandoning his automotive business.

“He just left it and walked away,” White said.

The six 55-gallon drums were highly flammable, White said, and should have been disposed of properly. The drums were discovered by the property’s landlord after Rassouli had left his business, Best Auto Body.

A second defendant, Hamid Nadjafi, of Reseda, was cleared after he proved he had left the business before the violation occurred.
