Foreign Car Dealers May Sue Over New Labeling Law: The American International Automobile Dealers Assn. said it might file a legal challenge of the requirement that all new cars bear window stickers detailing where they were assembled. The trade group took a step toward suing earlier this week when it filed a petition challenging the regulation with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the U.S. government’s auto safety agency. The petition doesn’t prevent the regulation from taking effect. There is no time limit for the NHTSA’s response. The requirement is scheduled to take effect Oct. 1. Foreign car producers say the labels will mislead the public and discriminate in favor of U.S. auto makers. Supporters say they will answer the increasingly muddled question about how “American” a car really is.
