Datametrics Corp., the Woodland Hills maker of computer printers, said its earnings for the third fiscal quarter that ended July 31 were $27,000, down 66% from $79,000 in the same period a year earlier. Revenues for the quarter were up 7% to $5.9 million, from $5.5 million in the same period last year.

For the nine months, the company reported a loss of $186,000 compared with earnings of $1.4 million last year. The loss was on a 12% increase in revenue to $18.2 million, from $16.2 million in the first nine months of the year before.

Datametrics attributed its increased revenues during the nine months to demand for so-called “ruggedized” computers in a subsidiary that adapts computers for use on ships or oil platforms. Earnings declined due to increased investment in development of a color printer for the commercial market, the company said.
