Countywide : Centennial Farm Docents Needed

Share

Docents are needed to conduct educational tours of the Centennial Farm at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

This miniature working farm is designed to give local schoolchildren hands-on experiences tending crops and caring for farm animals.

Training sessions will be held for new docents, who do not need a background in agriculture. Volunteers will lead the tours from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays through Fridays from Oct. 4 to May 26.

Since 1989, more than 125,000 schoolchildren have visited the one-acre farm, which is planted with beans, beets, corn, watermelon and other crops. Farm animals include horses, sheep, pigs, goats and chickens.

Persons interested in being docents may call Ginny Smith at (714) 708-1517. School field trips can be arranged by calling JoAnn Robinson at (714) 708-1566.
