AT&T; Withdraws From Video Game Market: AT&T; Corp.’s consumer products unit, in an abrupt reversal, said it was canceling plans to manufacture a modem that would have allowed users in different locations to play video games with each other over phone lines. The device would have been used in conjunction with the Sega Genesis and 3DO game machines. In a statement, the AT&T; unit said it was refocusing its efforts on digital wireless telephones for homes and small businesses and globalization of its telephone products, because those areas have better profit potential than video game players and peripheral products.
