Share

After surviving the challenge of Washington’s Napoleon Kaufman in its opener, USC’s defense will face another Saturday against Penn State at State College, Pa.

While USC “limited” the explosive Kaufman to 156 yards rushing, with a longest run of 21 yards, in a 24-17 victory, Penn State junior Ki-Jana Carter ran for 210 yards and three touchdowns in a 56-3 victory over Minnesota.

Two of Carter’s runs went for 80 and 62 yards.

A year ago, in a 21-20 victory over USC, Carter carried 21 times for 104 yards, with a longest run of 15 yards. On a day when the Trojans rushed for only 34 yards, the 5-foot-10, 212-pounder from Westerville, Ohio, was part of a Penn State offense that ran for 282 yards.

Carter gained 1,026 yards last season, becoming Penn State’s first 1,000-yard rusher since Blair Thomas in 1989.
