Allergan Inc.: The firm announced that it has completed its acquisition of the worldwide intraocular lens business of Ioptex Research Inc.

Ioptex, based in Irwindale, manufactures intraocular lenses, which are used in cataract surgery to replace a patient’s natural lens. The acquisition, according to an Allergan spokesman, is part of the company’s overall strategy to increase its share of the eye care products market.

Allergan in Irvine purchased Ioptex’s intraocular lens business for a total of $16 million.
