Postal Service Offers New Mover’s Guide

Share

A new Mover’s Guide is being distributed at all Valley-based post offices, replacing the traditional change-of-address form.

The 24-page booklet, which is available now nationwide, contains before and after moving tips and advertisements offering up to $60 of savings on moving-related products and services.

The booklet also contains answers to the most commonly asked questions about permanent and temporary mail forwarding. The Postal Service will continue to offer mail forwarding.

“It was produced at no cost to the Postal Service,” said Terri Bouffiou, spokeswoman with the Postal Service. “The ads inside pay for the cost of it.”

The Postal Service also expects to save millions of dollars when customers opt to notify friends and other correspondents in advance of their move, dramatically reducing internal forwarding costs, according to Van Nuys Postmaster Kerry Wolny.

The booklet was tested in 10 cities last year. According to an independent survey conducted by the Postal Service, 84% of the movers found the Guide helpful. More than three out of four movers preferred it to the old change-of-address card.
