Tommy LiPuma Joins MCA as President of GRP Records

Longtime music producer and Time Warner Inc. executive Tommy LiPuma, who left Elektra Records after the recent shake-up there, is joining MCA Music Entertainment as president of its GRP Records contemporary jazz label.

LiPuma was a senior vice president at Elektra. He left in the recent shake-up at parent Warner Music that resulted in former Atlantic Group Chairman Doug Morris being named to head Time Warner’s new domestic music division.

LiPuma spent a large part of his career at Warner Bros. Records before joining Elektra in 1990. His production credits include work on Barbra Streisand’s “The Way We Were” album and on Natalie Cole’s “Unforgettable,” which earned him a share of a Grammy award.

MCA said GRP co-founder and President Larry Rosen will become chairman emeritus; co-founder Dave Grusin will continue as a creative consultant to the label.

* EMI named former Polydor President Davitt Sigerson president and chief executive of its EMI Records unit. He will oversee the company’s EMI, SBK and Chrysalis Records units. Sigerson succeeds Daniel Glass, who is resigning.

* Mauro A. Sardi was promoted to senior vice president of international pay TV and administrative operations for Warner Bros. International Television Distribution.

* TriStar Pictures promoted Chris Lee to executive vice president of production.

* New Line Cinema promoted Steve Elzer to director, corporate publicity.

* Alex Hodges was named senior vice president of MCA Concerts.

* Vinnie Longobardo was named vice president of programming and production for MTV Asia.

* Robert Lazarus was named executive vice president and general manager of Turner Pictures Worldwide Distribution. Separately, Robert W. Ross has been named president of Turner International Inc., the international sales and distribution arm of Turner Broadcasting Systems Inc.

* Scott Martin was promoted to vice president of intellectual property for the motion picture group at Paramount Pictures.
